Gatchina - the cradle of the...

My good old town... I spent all my childhood in this city. And I still can go around its streets with my eyes closed. There are about a 70 postcards from the beginning of the century in my collection: views of the city, its parks and palaces. Use the link on the bottom of this page to browse. You can limit your selection to certain parts, like: "Inside the Emperor`s palace", "Priorat palace", etc. Here is a link to my article on Order of St John of the Order of the Knights of Malta who used Priorat palace as their meeting place.

It has its share of mysteries, take an undeground tunnels for example. One connects the emperor Paul the I palace and the 'Priorat' palace where he could walk using the tunnel so that nobody could see him. Another tunnel connects the palace and the moor on the White lake. In 1917 Kerenski used that tunnel to escape from the revolutionary troops who were trying to arrest him when he was in Gatchina.

Many of the postcards are signed and I placed the scans of the signed parts as well. You can click on the word "Signed" in the description of those postcards to read the inscriptions.
