Soviet BMW motorcycle

The following is a sad story of one unusual item that I imported from Russia in early 90s.

This Soviet BMW motorcycle (WWII type) with an attached side car was manufactured in the USSR using the German plants and designs which the Soviets brought from a defeated Germany to pay for reparations. It is called "Dneper-11". I have purchased it in 1993 and sent to my partner Wayne. He suggested that we could find a good market for these motocycles in the US. Unfortunately, Wayne didn't check the import regulations and the bike was allowed into the country for 2 years to serve as a displayed item only. No driving on of off road. Any vehicle imported to the US that was manufactured after 19768 shall have cerifiable lens, tires, etc. It should have EPA certificate... It all required a lot of investments of time and money that none of us had. So, after 2 years, the bike either have had to be destroyed or taken out of the country. Wayne had chosen former. The frame was cut in halves, the rest was disassembled. ...

All the parts have been sold !
