Soviet Army Cockade |
|||
| There were close to 5,000,000 people
serving in the Soviet army at one time. I can be wrong, but there was even more
by the end of the WWII. Every one of them had a summer hat and a winter hat. A
winter hat was usually manufactured from either rabbit fur or lamb. Every hat
had a cockade on it to distinguish it from those hat that civillians were
wearing. Those winter hats looked very similar and without a cockade you may
not even know if you can give orders to that man or not. Of course, the summer
military hats were very different then civillain ones. Some of them had flat
tops and in Russian they are called fu-raz-ka, other had
slightly pointy top and a funny name pi-pot-ka The cockade displayed above is from a winter hat. This is how the pinback looks like. It has two wires that are inserted through a small hole and then put safely behind. All cockades have similar looking wires behind. ![]() |
